The calculator combines total distance, estimated consumption and the entered fuel price. Metric and US units are converted consistently. A small allowance for additional occupants is estimated from the vehicle's curb weight and added passenger weight.
The same additional load has a greater effect on a light car than on a heavy vehicle. Curb weight makes the passenger-load estimate more plausible.
